Job Purpose

The Industrial Engineer owns plant-area Industrial Engineering for Group Bayport’s cutting and sorting operations, Logistics, Stores and Aluminium Hardware fabrication, and reports to the Sr. Manager – Industrial Engineering.
The role delivers time and motion studies, line balancing, layout improvement and scrap containment for these areas. It is also the primary shop-floor partner as CNC and cutting-related automation is commissioned.

Key Responsibilities

1. Time & Motion Studies

  • Conduct time studies (SAM / MOST / stopwatch) on manual and CNC cutting operations, Logistics, Stores, and Aluminium Hardware cutting and bending.
  • Validate area process times against field data before they are proposed as standard, and feed signed-off entries into the Departmental SAM Catalog.
  • Set and maintain Takt Time for cutting, Logistics, Stores and hardware lines against current demand.

2. Layout, Flow & Line Balancing

  • Map material delivery routes from fabric and foam rolls through to the cutting tables; identify and remove flow bottlenecks.
  • Balance manning and workstation layout on cutting and hardware lines against Takt Time.
  • Execute SMED / quick-changeover initiatives on cutting equipment, roll change and hardware tooling, as directed by the Sr. Manager – IE.

3. Scrap Containment & Visual Management

  • Own the nesting and cutting scrap KPI for the area; implement and maintain scrap tracking boards at each cutting station.
  • Introduce Poka-Yoke (mistake-proofing) where scrap is systemic rather than one-off.
  • Implement hourly production tracking boards for the area, in coordination with the BPM Team.

4. Automation Partnership

  • Act as the shop-floor point of contact for CNC and laser-cutting automation projects owned by the Manager, Automation & Business Analyst.
  • Validate manual-vs-automated cycle time and scrap assumptions before and after commissioning, and feed post-commissioning variance data back into the automation portfolio’s tracking.

5. BOM & Cross-Functional Support

  • Support the MDM Team on BOM-linked time measurement (crew size, labour and machine calculation) for cutting and hardware SKUs.
  • Coordinate with the peer Industrial Engineer (BB, Tarps & Stores), and escalate capacity-impacting findings to the Sr. Manager – IE and the Manager – Global Capacity.

Qualifications & Experience

The role needs an engineering diploma or degree plus 3–8 years of apparel manufacturing experience.

Essential

  • Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech in Industrial, Apparel, Textile, Mechanical or Production Engineering.
  • 3–8 years of experience in apparel manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of time and motion study methods (SAM / MOST / stopwatch).
  • Comfortable working across the production floor.
  • Working proficiency in Excel.

Preferred

  • Exposure to stitching, signage, print or banner production operations.

Skills & Competencies

  • Shop-floor first: a hands-on problem solver who is comfortable working directly on the floor.
  • Layout and flow: organised, with a strong eye for layout and material flow.
  • Data discipline: accurate, disciplined data collection; time studies are run to a standard, not an approximation.
  • Collaboration: works cleanly with the Sr. Manager – IE, the peer plant-area IE, the MDM Team and the BPM Team.

Key Performance Indicators

Performance is measured on four outcomes.
KPIWhat it measures

SAM validationSAM entries validated against the Sr. Manager – IE’s overall plan
Takt Time adherenceAdherence to Takt Time on production lines
Stores performanceStores inventory accuracy and improvement in put-away-to-pick cycle time
Tracking board roll-outOn-time delivery of production tracking board roll-out for the area

Compensation

The CTC band is ₹4,00,000 – ₹7,00,000 per annum, positioned by years of relevant experience and demonstrated hands-on IE skill.
  • Entry-level candidates (about 3 years) sit toward the lower end of the band.
  • Experienced candidates (about 8 years) sit toward the upper end.
  • Final placement is confirmed by HR.
